About Us
The UNCAC Coalition is an umbrella organisation, uniting civil society actors from all backgrounds committed to promoting the ratification, implementation and monitoring of the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The Convention is the only binding universal anti-corruption instrument and has been ratified by 186 countries.
The Coalition has membership of over 100 civil society organisations and individuals on all continents, as well as a wider network of an additional 250 bodies. They all represent interest and expertise on a broad range of issues – from anti-corruption, transparency and rule of law, to environmental protection, development and human rights – but all recognise the importance and the tremendous potential of the UNCAC.
The Coalition’s current UNCAC priorities include ensuring a robust review mechanism for the Convention and providing support to civil society organisations to contribute to the monitoring of its implementation on the national level; an effective operation of the Convention’s provisions, in particular on access to information and transparency; protection of whistleblowers and anti-corruption activists; asset recovery; recognition of victims’ rights and tackling grand corruption impunity. To that end, the Coalition advocates at the international level through UN bodies and processes and supports the use of the UNCAC by civil society at national and regional levels.
In 2019, the Coalition opened its international office in Vienna, Austria, where the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) which acts as the UNCAC secretariat has its seat.
